Our Inspiration

Gregory Hugh Montgomery Jr. was larger than life. His calm demeanor would mesmerize, while his wisdom would inspire. He would make you feel like you were the center of the universe. “You Are It”, he would say. He believed that anyone could reach their fullest potential if they realized that they were the creator of their own reality. No one was more of a prime example of this than the man himself.

Greg made his mark in the sport of football and in the hearts of many. As a Michigan State Spartan, Greg donned the #23 as his dad did in the 50s. Greg was named All-American twice, All Big 10 three times and Playboy All-American in 1987. To this day, he still holds the MSU record for the longest punt from booming an 86 yard bomb against the University of Michigan. He was then drafted by the Houston Oilers in the 3rd round as #72 overall in the 1988 NFL draft. Greg also went on to play for the Detroit Lions and the Baltimore Ravens over the course of his NFL career. His accomplishments as an NFL punter include being named All Pro and playing in the 1994 Pro Bowl, All AFC twice and All Time Best Punter by The Oilers. The NFL Players Association recognized Greg twice for their Mackey Award as the AFC’s Leading Punter.

Greg was the American Dream, but where there are dreams, there are also nightmares. Greg was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1997. For over 20 years, Greg rode extreme highs and fell to the depths of despair. Yet, even while battling demons, Greg was dedicated to making the world a better place. He led years of punting camps for aspiring football players, but more importantly, felt an obligation to connect with all he met. He was dedicated to raising awareness about mental illness. He was outspoken and bravely told his story about his struggle with bipolar disorder.

Greg is our inspiration, and we are determined to build on his pursuit of Ultimate Growth. We bring awareness, aid, and community to those afflicted by mental illness.
